| totally hard to believe. i bought this book and i was surprised. it was not what i thought.
the school Elliot goes to is more of a nightmare than a real school. those wacko bullies must have brain damage. they base all their ways on a book called "1984". it is a real book. there are spies all over the high school workign for the "guardians"-who are the directors and leaders of the bullying. some think the teachers are even in on it.Elliot is bullied when he does not follow the rules. and ... | I recommend that parents read this with their kids (esp younger readers, eg, my daughter is 8yo but loves Jacqueline Wilson books) rather than leaving them to read on their own. It contains a few confronting issues, eg, references to a parent's suicide and drug abuse, that may need a little explaining. Otherwise, i think it is a really valuable book - not only enjoyable for kids but brings up some really pertinent issues for young people, eg, bullying and friendship, the importance of not judging people, dealing ... | 3 & 6 year old choose this as one of the 100+ books off our personal bookshelf for reading prior to our daily 'rest' time. Billy the bully picks on everyone on the playground & when things change for him one of the victims of his bullying rescues him and becomes his friend. Colorful photos & good message.

| This book has a major continuity problem - Arthur and Buster are shopping on March 31st, they have problems with Binky the next day at school, and then the following day is April Fool's Day (April 1). Somehow, the author managed to wedge an extra day in there.
Other problems include a teacher watching Binky bully Arthur without intervening, and then everyone laughs when Binky falls off the stage at one point, which is not cool even for a bully. Otherwise, it's a pretty cool book. |

| Three Rotten Eggs by Gregory Maguire was a great book. This was very strange but interesting. A boy named Thud moves to Hamlet, Vermont, just in time for the annual spring egg hunt. The girls and boys have clubs and each club wants Thud to join so they have the most people in their group. At the egg hunt the teams have a competition of who gets the most eggs, but when three rotten eggs start to hatch the kids have to find a way keep them alive.
