Bullying is a very serious problem plaguing our country. It is the source of the majority of the school shooting that we read about in horror. Finally a book with a unique approach to addressing the problem: a book written for children to help them address the escalating cycle of bullying/violence before it goes too far. I had this book in my classroom for years and it was a favorite of emergent readers. The story was one that young children related to well as it tapped into their imagination and desires to be in control in scary situations. The predictable text was also great for my students who needed a scaffold to be successful readers. Why is it out of print?

Joe's problem is that he has a habit of making up stories. He is creative and someday wants to be a writer, and he has told his share of stories to everyone in his life. Therefore, no one wants to believe him when he ... Read More:

Books : Willy the Wimp
This book is classic Browne. A tale of transformation, the loser (Willy) becomes hero after a rigorous routine of hilarious self-improvement activies. Of course, he discovers (as do we all) that there are just some things about yourself you can't change.

This book has been a favourite with every child I have ever read it to since I was first introduced to it in 1985. It seems to be a big hit with the kindergarten crowd and Browne's illustrations seem to be especially appealing to boys. A must ... Read More:

I just finished reading Emily Windsnap and the Castle of the Deep, and blew throught it in about 2 days. I thought that 1 was good, but 2 topped it. In book 2, Emily is trying to find a way to fit in with all of the other full mermaids. She wants to make them think that she is really brave, so she goes into a place where she knows she shouldn't go, but doesn't know why. Along with her friend, Shona, they accidentilly awake the kraken, which is like a giant octopus. She also has an encounter with her former enemy, ... Read More:

This is an oddball comedy. It is played completely flat, and deadpant. Otherwise, you could consider it somewhere between To Sir With Love and Welcome Back Kotter with a bit of They Call Me Bruce.

Tough guy delinquents that never fight, and their class at the delinquent high school now includes a gorilla, Freddie Mercury, and a robot.

I didn't like Feed, so I approached this novel apprehensively. But I found it's simplicity refreshing and it's sarcasm entertaining. While it wouldn't be my pick for the deepest or most moving story, it's pretty good, and I think, worth reading.
