| I recommend this book and all the others in the series. They are each around 45 pages of fun facts that our grandson, not quite 3 years old, loved. He kept asking for more, and sat through three books in one sitting. He later repeated facts from the books, showing that he was really listening and learning. |

| One Hundred Shoes (Step-Into-Reading, Step 2) One Hundred Shoes (a.k.a. the centipede book, in our home) is GREAT. I bought it as a "math" reader for my kids, ages 5, 6 and 9. They all enjoy it but my 5yr. old son esp. LOVES it. We began reading it just before K5 began and he memorized it w/in two days. Although it's currently beyond his reading level, it has served as a great incentive; he is learning/beginning to actually read the book he loves so much. | The poems are fun, and my 9th graders enjoyed reading them. The only problem is the selection is too limited--there are too few poems in the book! Guess I will have to get the next one. |

| This is not one of the best books in the series. While it is factual, the rhyming is sloppy--in one stanza a word is rhymed with itself and in another stanza, the word from the beginning of the next phrase is placed at the end of another phrase so that the stanza will rhyme. All in all, this type of sloppy rhyming is extremely disappointing coming from the "Cat in the Hat"! |

The problem is, children who would be learning this type of math may find the story to babyish for their tastes. | I was very upset when I read this book! Threatening words used in the tale included: "You want to kill the little cow! You stop, or I will whip you--NOW!" & "it can bite & kick & kill", and there were many other such references. These are violent & scarey words to a young child & promote the idea of violence as a way to solve disputes. How awful that an author wrote a book like this.
