| A difficult topic, a difficult read! Nick is not a likable protagonist and his abuse of Caitlin is hard to take. Her acceptance of the blame for provoking Nick's anger may be realistic, but it is still very unsettling.
The thought-provoking nature of both Nick's behavior and Caitlin's response to Nick's behavior make it a powerful read for young women as well as young men. |

There are two major mistakes that readers of the Hardy Boys series routinely make: 1) Not reading (& many times not even knowing about) the ORIGINAL, unrevised versions of the text. In almost every case, the original editions were much superior, and 2) Not researching the books, and assuming that all the HB volumes are basically of equal quality. | My 3 year old thinks that this is the greatest book ever written. The story is engaging and the illustrations are priceless. My husband and I would read this story even if we didn't have kids. It's awfully hard not to like the dirty cowboy or his dog. |

| Hiding sercret panels is a lot harder than it used to be. For one thing, a gypsum-board wall does not often show many seams, so it's hard to see how that all fits together, for one thing.

The premise of this book is completely lame. A group of counterfeiters are stealing rare coins that are worth a lot of money and melting them down, then recasting them into quarters and half dollars. Then they spend the money in order to receive dimes as change, and then a young guy disguised as an old guy turns the dimes into paper money at banks. ...Really? | My 4 year old loves every book but my 2 1/2 year old is very hard to please. Both of them love "Giant John". It's been a month now and my kids still ask for "Giant John" every night. How could a mom not love a book when she hears happy chants of "Giant John, Giant John!" at storytime. |
