It gives nothing about this book away to say up front that it's about a single father in high school raising his brand new daughter. Johnson alternates the action forward and backward from the birth of the child, showing Bobby's struggles caring for an infant, and also giving brief glimpses of how things went when Nia was pregnant.

By itself, it's a touching but realistic story of two students with promising futures that suddenly give way to parenthood because of one mistake. But for me, ... Read More:

Marlfox is definetely one of the better Redwall books. This novel still uses Redwall cleshes, but has several suprising twists. I'll try not to give anything away, but a character from a previous book plays a major part. The book was fairly easy to follow considering the amount of perspectives. Brian Jaques used wonderful detail, but the villains could have been smarter. For example, one of the main villains makes a very stupid mistake ending with lethal consequences. Some other characters desperately needed more background and ... Read More:

I did a fair amount of research and purchased two books that I hoped would be appropriate to give to my son sometime after he turns 12. After reading the first book (which I have reviewed elsewhere) I was very disapointed and discouraged. When I read the next book, though, the book by Mavis Jukes (who I did not even realize is a woman until my wife point that out to me later), I was quite pleased. I read this book cover to cover (as should you before you give it to a child) and found it to be spot on with regard to all the topics important ... Read More:

Ponyboy Curtis is the narrator of The Outsiders. He tells us the rivalry between two across town gangs, the Greasers and Socs. At first, being a Greaser, he only has one image of the Socs, wealthy kids with no problems to deal with. But after a fight was taken to far, everything changed. Ponyboy realizes that maybe things aren't always what they seem. Throughout this novel we listen as Ponyboy deals with rumbles, a bossy older brother, school, and the Socs, and watch him grow from it.

Darry Curtis is the unofficial leader of the Greasers, ... Read More:

Frank and Joe Hardy, teenage sons of a famous detective, find a mystery to solve on their own when the Tower Mansion is robbed of a fortune in jewels and bonds. The caretaker is arrested, but the boys don't believe he's guilty.

I read the original 1927 edition and it is quite a trip back in time. By today's standards, the language is antiseptic and bland ("No slang please, not in Tower Mansion!"), but it's perfect for boys aged 8-10 who are just beginning to read chapter books. There's no danger, violence, or even much action to speak of; the emphasis is ... Read More:

Grampa is left as an inheritance a stinky posh kitty litter!!! Their kitty is excited to use use-but wait-dangers lurk!
What a great book for a boy- full of gross, smelly, ghastly characters- not to mention the nasty kitty litter!!!

I read this to my 7 yr old son. He is a slow reader- but I do recommend this book for readers in 2nd grade. Has pictures throughout the book- which I even enjoy. Very light and entertaining story. We started with this one- so I don't think one needs to do them in any order. I now will order the rest of this series.

I adored the Billy and Blaze series when I was a kid. The stories are timeless and kids of all ages can appreciate the bond between a boy and his horse. Definitely a must read for any boy or girl who loves animals.
