31.Brian's Winter by: Gary Paulsen

Books : Brian's Winter
I think that Brian's Winter is an interesting story. The author is Gary Paulsen who has written many great books. Brian's Winter is the third book after Hatchet. The book "The River" comes after Hatchet. Brian's Winter tells about what would have happened if Brian didn't get rescued out of the Canadian forests when he did and how he had to go through a strong and cold Canadian winter without and supplies besides the stuff he rescued from the plane. I liked this book because it tells about an interesting ... Read More:

Eleven-year-old Harriet M. Welsch experiences stormy
days in 6th grade as a result of her habit/hobby/obsession:
writing down her thoughts and observations in a notebook all during the day. Not just on her after-school Spy Route (when she snoops through windows and even sneaks into private homes to ferret out information about her adult neighbors). Oh no, but during the schoolday in her actual classroom--when she should be concentrating on lessons or doing her work. But for Harriet keeping a Notebook ... Read More:

Books : The Read Aloud Handbook
This is a great gift for a baby shower. It encourages parents to read to kids from birth and tells them why it is important. It then gives book titles for every age and summaries of each book. I read to all 3 of my sons until they were seniors in high school. They all have doctoral degrees or are working on them. They attribute their success to a love of reading!

Tuck Everlasting

Children in elementary school should not read the Natalie Babbitt books unless they are very intelligent readers because of the language. Babbitt writes richly using similes, personifications, and metaphors to help the reader understand the differences between Winnie's world and the woods where the Tucks live. To give you an example, at the outskirts of the woods the trees "sigh" because they are at the edge of a place between the Foster's "touch-me-not" world and the enchanted inner part of the woods ... Books : The Mouse and the Motorcycle
This book is a rare treasure, perfectly pitched to read aloud to my five-year-old boys.

First, it's a lovely tale, perfectly combining gentle, humourous real world observation (hotels, vacuum cleaners) with just enough fantasy elements to keep childish imagination tantalised (a talking mouse! who rides a motorbike!).

Most appealing of all are Cleary's full, three-dimensional characters - just as I remember from my own earth-shattering discovery of Ramona decades ago. You can't help but relate to a mouse who ... Read More:

38.The Great Brain by: John Fitzgerald

Books : The Great Brain
The Great Brain is one of the best all time books for boys ever written. In my humble opinion of course. The prose is engaging capturing the attention. The stories are exciting and compelling. The chapters are just the right length. And it has all the elements that young boys love from Cowboys and Indians to cops and robbers. What more could you ask for?

But of course, looking back on my childhood as I place this book on the shelf for my own little boy, I realize that the moral lessons this book taught so covertly were lessons that stayed with ... Read More:

39.The Witches Audio by: Roald Dahl

Books : The Witches Audio
Another spooky tale, but with more spook, this book is the story of a little boy who discovers the nefarious plan of a group of witches to finally rid the world of children once and for all. It might be a little much for younger children, but older ones will likely enjoy the creepy undertone.

40.Brian's Return by: Gary Paulsen, Peter Coyote

Books : Brian's Return
I loved this book it was very pages turning. My favorite part of the book was when Brian went back to the woods. The book is all about a boy that goes back to the woods to live and get his life back. When he is living in the woods he has a lot of suprises. You have to read Hatchet first because you will not get anything. This is a perfect gift for any boy that likes the outdoors or camping. Also it is very short (110 pages) so if you don't like long book this is for you.
