It's funny how you can know a story without ever reading it... and how it can surprise you once you do read it, even though you know what's going to happen.

What I found most interesting was how much different it was from what I'd expected, and from the movies I've seen based on it over the years. Renfield, for example, was vastly more interesting than I've seen him in movies. He doesn't just sit there and moan for his Master. There's a method to his (literal) madness. And Van Helsing ... Ordered for a friend who is teaching 1st grade in New Orleans and building up her library. Didn't read the book myself, but she chose it on a wish list so I presume she thinks it's a good book for 1st graders.

My 4 and 6 year old daughters and I listened to the audio CD in the car, and we all were riveted to the story. It is told from Emily's point of view, and describes her response to finding out she's like a fish when in the water. It's a positive story for any kid who feels out of place and lonely amongst their peers, and explores the excitement of finding your own talents. Some suspense, but not too much for my preschooler.

It was a very enjoyable read! I didn't want to put the book down. I would have liked to have seen a little more interaction between Caspian and Peter, and a more detailed battle sequence at the end.

In this book, the Nazi invasion of Poland is seen through the eyes of a small homeless vagabond of a child, a child who is both too naive to understand properly what is going on around him, yet also more street-smart and much better at surviving the hard life than the adults around him.

I found this book refreshingly unique, intelligently written, and compelling too - in fact, I found it so impossible to put down that I ended up staying up most of the night to finish it. However, it is a very realistically written book, and none of the ... Read More:

Books : The Chronicles of Narnia: The Magician's Nephew : BBC (Lewis, C. S. Chronicles of Narnia (New York, N.Y.), V. 2.)
This book seems to have been written to give the classic " The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" from the '40's a history, but later? C.S. Lewis continued to write about this alternate fantasy reality with the Christian overtones for seven books. I don't rate this as one of the better ones,
but they are all interesting mixes of magic, alternate worlds and
Christian divine right of kings mythology. We have ordinary boys and girls on their summer/ vacation "adventures" become princes
and princesses in Narnia where the horse and other ... Read More:

This is her favorite story and she wanted the original illustrations in the book. She was thrilled!

This amazing book takes you on a journey to a fantasy world of animated excitement. It is an excellent read for young ones as well as adults. There's plenty of epic adventure, with a storyline of no dull moments. The detailed narration was so vivid; it was as if I was living through the characters experience all of the action in real life.

I loved the characters, the storyline and adventures. There were also funny scenes that any audience can appreciate. This was a very good book.
