151.Dr. Suess's ABC by: Dr. Seuss

Books : Dr. Suess's ABC
Most well known for his delightful children's stories full of witty wordplay covering allegorical nuggets of social commentary and teachable moments, Dr. Suess (aka Theodor Geisel) also wrote this excellent abecedarian to use in helping younger children learn to read, spell, and write. The book introduces each minuscule (lowercase) and capital (upper case) letter in the English alphabet, e.g. "Big A, Little a" and "Big B, Little b" and so on and so forth. The letter introduction is followed by a ... Read More:

My daughters and I really enjoyed listening to this classic literature in long car rides. The story combined with the enchanting music made it all the more endearing.

I somehow tragically managed to make my way to adulthood with never reading anything but the kiddie version of this book. When I found this book for super-cheap in the teachers' lounge book sale and I figured "hey, why not?" And thus I picked it up and immediately fell in love with the sheer Old-South charm that only Twain can deliver. Really, people, it is no wonder that this book is such a classic! It may not have the soulful human reflections of "Huckleberry Finn", but in the solemn concern for the pleasures ... Read More:

Books : Grim Tuesday (Keys to the Kingdom, Book 2)
Grim Tuesday was a good read for me. In the beginning, it starts off on Earth, and Grim's Grotesques are affecting the world around Arthur. Houses were sold, including Arthur's own home. His family was in financial trouble, as well.

Eventually, it becomes darker with Arthur being in the pit, and then when he begins on a journey on a ship that looks like a turtle, his journey isn't so dark. I found the second half of the book was a better read, more interesting. I like the fact there wasn't really a drawn ... Read More:

155.The Scarlet Letter by: Nathaniel Hawthorne
1993-10
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : The Scarlet Letter
'The Scarlet Letter' is a beautifully written and perfectly balanced classic of American literature, addressing in a lean 251 pages countless issues of the human experience: love, the nature of sin and shame and repentance, revenge and mercy, civilization and wild, society and ostracism. In bald terms, 'The Scarlet Letter' is absolutely one of the best pieces of writing ever, um, written.

A lot of people seem to take umbrage at Hawthorne's affected 19th-century style. My advice to you: get over it. It's a style, no ... Read More:

Book one The Wizard of Earthsea was required reading for a children's literature course I did back in 1999. I enjoyed it so much I read all the books and collections of short stories set in that world. Yet even though this novel finishes by revolving again around Ged, it is really about Tenar/Arha, a young girl believed to be the reborn High Priest of the unnamed ones. (Nameless ones.) Her name is taken from her at 6 years of age, a year after she was taken from her family and home. She is given the name/title "Arha" - "the one without a name." ... Read More:

In "The Red Gate Farm" I thought that the setting was a perfect place to have the plot. I thought it was a good place because it was a perfect place to have counterfeit money making place where nobody ever goes to and where people would never think of a cave and a farm to do all the making of fake money.
"The Red Gate Farm" was a very good book I thought. The events that I liked were the beginning when the man comes up to Nancy in the train because that's when the first start of the mystery begins to show up. Also I liked how nice and kind Nancy ... Read More:

A.A.Milne's "Now We are Six" is a must for all chldren. Read it over and over, and son the child will learn favorite poems and can look at the words and read along. It is good that children learn the Real Pool characters rather than Disney's idea.

This is a simple book of a Little Sal, and Little Sal's mother, and Little Bear, and Little Bear's mother, who get mixed up with each other on Blueberry Hill.

It's very realistically written and illustrated, and the exciting part isn't too scary for little ones.

I will note that it's a bit long - maybe better for kids with longer attention spans than shorter ones. If they're as young as Little Sal is, it might be better to wait a year before reading :)
