| While the book was very enjoyable it did not keep my attention as the other books in the series have. Chet and Biff, mistakenly identified as Joe and Frank Hardy, have been abducted. The Hardy Boys spend the book searching for them, but their searches are very repetitive. They begin in Northport, then to Shantytown, then home to Bayport, back to Shantytown, another clue leads them to Northport, they run back to talk to the sheriff in Bayport who in turn sends them looking for more clues in Shantytown, ... | As someone closely associated with the military, though not of it, I found Samet's observations of the military life, thought processes and customs fascinating. It is often difficult for those outside the life to distinguish between our society's idea of a soldier and individual soldiers themselves. We tend to believe that they are all cut of the same cloth -- proud, honorable, bloodthirsty, fighting men -- and tend to forget that the officer core includes poets, dreamers, and women as well.

| This novel does a wonderful job of painting scenes from the daily life of a family of Lithuanian immigrant workers in the early 1900s. Sinclair produces memorable characters and captures the spirt of the times well. However, it is not a great novel from a purely literary perspective due to its lack of depth and rather uneventful plot. This novel carved out its niche in history by exposing the unsanitary conditions of the meat packing industry of the day. | I didn't know what I had for years. I borrowed this tape 7 years ago from an acquaintance who never wanted it back. Just recently I became very interested in self-hypnosis and began listening to this tape to see how it works. On Side B, Dr. Pulos uses two voices, one in the right channel and another in the left, two very similar but differently worded hypnotic inductions running simultaneously. | For a debut novel, I thought this was really very good. Ida B. has a strong, compelling voice and I loved her relationship with the trees and streams and nature all around her.
I think girls will especially love this book because Ida B. isn't a perfect little kid, but she is a thoughtful kid and a kid who cares deeply about things. Ida B. is a good read and I will certainly pick up the next novel that Katherine Hannigan publishes. |
