| I can't say more on the plot because it's quite obvious what the plot is just from illustrations of the novel. But on the "controversial" aspect of the novel involving the excessive use of the N word, people have to think of the time period that Twain is writing about and when the novel was published.

| I am 44 years old and yesterday, at our Thanksgiving celebration at a relative's home, I came to read this wonderful book for the first time. I was so touched by it, really all choked up as I read about Ferdinand. I just couldn't hold back my tears. | I enjoyed reading Lord of the Flies by William Golding. It was a very well written novel. Although I believe the beginning started really slow and did not grab my attention right a way, but as I kept going the book became more and more interesting. Golding sure knows how to make a huge plot flow and was able to create a huge conflict for the story. The conflict in the end teaches some very valuable life lessons for the reader and the characters.

| 1. This is not the novel. This is a comic book adaptation of the novel. That said, it's very well done, but you need to know what you're getting.
2. I have some issues with it. It's mentioned several pages in, that it's a very cold summer and that Coraline has to bundle up, but she's drawn wearing T-shirts and short shorts and flip flops. 3. | I bought the cd's first. When I first played the book 1, my 2 kids (ages 2 & 4) didn't show too much interest in listening. So I thought maybe with the books, they would show interest. So I bought the books 1-4. As soon as I receive the books, I sat with them, read with them (translate the words, too - we are bi-lingual). I was a bit disappointed because there were less pictures that I expected. They showed interest at first, but they got bored later on. Don't get me wrong, they were great stories. | My children---ages three and five---request this book over and over all through the year and quote it on numerous occasions. It's one that I truly don't mind reading over and over as well. The incredibly colorful illustrations are fantastical and yet the small, wondering boy who experiences all these grand events somehow keeps them almost believable. | This book was handed down to me from a neighbor when I was a child 35+ years ago. It was a favorite of mine and I saved it for many years. Now my 2 year old can recite it almost word for word and we read it almost every day. I'm finally breaking down and buying a new copy since well-loved is an understatement for the condition of ours. It's a lovely story about family and I hope my daughter will be reading it to her children someday. |
