| I love Morris the Moose! I'm a very intelligent grownup now and I still had a ball purchasing this absolute favorite from my childhood and reading it again! My grown children probably wondered what I was doing with that recent purchase! It was a loving, comforting trip down memory lane, and I still recommend it for today's youth! Easy read, fun read! |

| I think that Brian's Winter is an interesting story. The author is Gary Paulsen who has written many great books. Brian's Winter is the third book after Hatchet. The book "The River" comes after Hatchet. Brian's Winter tells about what would have happened if Brian didn't get rescued out of the Canadian forests when he did and how he had to go through a strong and cold Canadian winter without and supplies besides the stuff he rescued from the plane. I have a lot of respect for a writer who can take holes, lizards and onions and create an incredible story. This book was amazing. It held my interest from the very first page. The characters were lovable and interesting (I particularly liked Zero), the plot was fast paced and engaging, the writing style was easy to read and follow. This book was great for a few reasons... Theme - a utopian society will always be relevant and always be thought provoking. Especially when its well written like The Giver is. I find the theme to be incredibly interesting, especially since I have only ever read one other similar novel which was 1984. Size and syle - It was short, very easy to read and follow. | I first used this book with my second graders as a pre-service art teacher last spring and knew I needed it for my own classroom library! This is truly a picture book with limited text to help children see what Ann Jonas intended with her black and white silhouette imagery.
Be prepared for "ooohs," "aahs," and excited gasps as you make the trip home from the city with the family in the book! |

| I emigrated to the Netherlands two years ago from California, an English-monolingual culture. I was familiar with Afrikaans, since I was born in South Africa. | Lyle is just so nice. Unfortunately, some people - and cats - are irrationally terrified by crocodiles. Seriously, what gives?
He scares his neighbor's cat so much that his neighbor arranges to have him sent to the zoo. Where he's miserable. But then his heroism - saving neighbor and cat from a fire - rescue him and all is well in the world again. Very similar to Lovable Lyle, another book in the series. Also, please note that this is a lengthy, wordy book and is better suited for the older end of the 4-8 range. |
