This is a classic around our house. My kids love it! The repetitive pattern is great for preschoolers and it teaches prediction skills.

Helen Lester's books all combine sweet stories with terrific humor that both children and adults can enjoy. The stories are just the right length and have a nice hidden message as well--you may be different but that can be a plus! The whole Tacky series is wonderful.

In which the Baudelaires have the best adventure yet, with a plot twist that caught my breath and almost put a tear in my eye. These are books with children as the main characters, but aren't "just" kids books.

Read and enjoy. Followed by: The Vile Village

Books : A Little Princess
I know there are probably a lot of people that would gag on the sugary sweetness of this book, but as a book for little girls it is absolutely enchanting. Even as an adult I still adore its sweet little heroine and her bravery and goodness.

The story is about Sara, a pampered little girl who travels to New York to attend school whilst her father does his work. She begins as the gem of the school, the administration falling over her, or more precisely Daddy's money. Then tragedy strikes, ... Read More:

My kids LOVED the thought-you-saiders chapter. They were wild with glee over the things the kids "thought you said". But I wasn't as crazy about the cure -- putting powder in their ears to make their ears super-sensitive. Likewise with the other cures -- they were all magic drops instead of the charming reverse-psychology cures of the first book.

This is one of those luminous children's books that should inform every child'd upbringing. If only it did. The illustrations are gorgeous, the message is whimsical and child-centered, the pleasure for adults is profound.

Really Great Stories! My kids loved them. Gertrude McFuzz is fabulous and John Lithgow was superb as the reader. In fact all of the cast were excellent in their roles.

The Big Brag, Thidwick, How Lucky You Are are easily perpetual favorites. We played these over and over.

A not to be missed collection for young listeners.... ages 1 to 100!

I am one of those parents that is thrilled to see her 5 1/2 year old son curl up with a book and "read" it. Yes the grammer in this series is a bit off and details are often limited - but it's a GREAT start. I am happy to and love to fill in the blanks once his curiosity has been peeked. My family and I highly reccomend this series and bought all of them on E-bay for a mere fraction ; )

I first read this book in grade school with the help of my mom. I remember it fondly as a heroic tale with a sad ending. I remember the illustrations vividly.

I walked past this book at the book store recently and was thrilled to see it and remember how much I had enjoyed it. I read it that night.

In all honestly, I was greatly disappointed. I found the story dull, and the ending extrememly saddening. I cried and cried, but mostly I was upset that the story didn't warrant such a heart tug at the end. And I found ... Read More:

So I'm reviewing this out of tribute to the wonderful work of the late Ms. L'Engle. This is still a great book, even if it is led by the odd cherubim creature affectionately known as Prog. As usual, the Murray books combine the real and the serious with the fantastical, and a childhood disease leads to explorations into the world of the mitochrondia.

There might be a little too much biology and science in this book to make it completely enjoyable, but on one hand, if you understand, it makes the story that much more enjoyable. ... Read More:
