| Ribsy is one of Beverly Cleary's series on the children of Klikitat Street in Portland Oregon. It is pure 50's childhood and very entertaining. I use this as an independent reading selection for groups of my fourth grade ESL students. They can easily read it on their own, helping one another on the vocabulary, and they stay interested. | I read this once before, loved it then, love it now. It's definitely not the best of Sharon Creech (and if you're interested in that, definitely check out Absolutely Normal Chaos), but it's really good writing. The one thing that bothers me though is the boy's voice. His actions are those of a little boy, as are his emotions, but his words...they make me wonder. Is there any chance he has a mental disorder? | I read this book after my son read it in school. I must say, I wasn't very impressed. The characters were shallow, the dialouge juvenile, and the plot predictable.
This is a book written for young kids. And young kids will most likely enjoy it. It is a great book for kids, as it is easy to read and has no objectionable content. But for anyone but young kids, it's a drag. |

| I'm turning 38 next year, and I humbly admit that the whole idea of saving and investing only sank in a couple of years ago (this was when I made my first mutual fund investment, out of impulse!). I've learned about the Beauty of Compounding a long time ago, but I guess my brain wasn't wired enough to see its real-life application. | I agree with other reviews that I don't think this book is as good as The Gruffalo...but I'm still giving it 5 stars because it is still a really great book. I don't think the story is as clever and the ending seems a little anti-climatic. But my 18 month old son LOVES this book...even more than The Gruffalo. This is one of the most often read books in our house. |
