| My son who is 6 years old says, "You should get it!".
This beautiful story has inspired my son to listen for music in the city as we go through our day. He often wonders aloud how Mozart would use a certain sound(like say for instance, our city bus) if Mozart was composing a new piece of music. We love this story. |

We've already shared this book three times with other little friends (and big ones) over the Thanksgiving holiday. It got lots of laughs and many comments about the artwork. | I saw an exhibition of David Macaulay at the Hudson River Museum in Yonkers, NY, in July 2007 and was totally in awe of his talent. He is such a fantastic Illustrator and has a wonderful sense of humor. Until then I did not know anything about him, but after the exhibition I went to Amazon and bought 6 of his books. In addition to his brillant architecture/construction books like Castle, Mosque, Pyramid, and fascinating technical "how to" books ie. | I bought this partly because it is by one of my favorite authors but also because it is about the Appalachia people of whom you see very little written. I think Cynthia Rylant has such a wonderful way of describing people and capturing their true essence. Her descriptives touch my heart as well as my 8 year old daughter's. I am especially fond of the way Rylant describes the people in this book and moves the reader past the stereotypes to get to know the real people of Appalachia. SHe does it in an almost poetic way.
