After seeing this book for the first time at a museum I decided to buy it. My son also remembered it after a short viewing at the museum, so it apparently had a good impact on him too.

I love the simple yet detailed illustrations - colorful & textured cutouts of each insect with no background noise. And the text has lots of info.

Not five stars because reading it feels kind of cumbersome. With the type of info presented, it would've been more effective in a more freestyle ... Read More:

Some helpful examples for starting fires, building lean too, etc. Way to much story telling for me. I just like the facts. I'm sorry I bought his collection without knowing about all the stories first. Oh well.

Books : Kids Nature Book
This book is written in a calendar format, encouraging readers to engage in nature activities appropriate for that time of year (in a seasonal climate). My children and I found ourselves occupied with listening for spring peepers in March, sowing sunflower seeds in June, making leaf tracings in October and pinecone birdfeeders in January. Far from the usual stuff however, this book is also packed with great nature facts, activities and games that I've never seen anywhere else.
Excellent resource for families ... Read More:

Books : Jungle (Eyewitness Books)
Eyewitness Books is a series of volumes aimed at young readers. As such, they provide a wonderful educational and learning opportunity for this age group. This volume is no different, providing a lively introduction to jungles.

The first segment, answering the question "What is a rain forest," provides basic background. The prose notes that rainforests are complex and old ecosystems, with a dazzling array of plant and animal life. Page 7 notes that rain forests come in several "stories"--"at the top," with ... This line of children's books are amazing. Each one begins with the question, "Are you a Spider?" or slug or bee or whatever. It continues, "If you are, then you were born like this, and you grow up like such, and this is how you catch your food" and on through the life cycle. They are very simple to read, yet very educational and very funny. At the end the book concludes that the reader is, in fact, probably not a spider, but a human boy or girl, and, thankfully, will never, ever, have to wrap up a bug and eat it! The ... Read More:

This picture book proved a great addition to our resource library. With a lack of emphasis on evolution at school, we were keen to introduce the building block concepts of natural science. The rich images and fairly straight forward style entranced our four and six year old, quickly making it a requested favourite.
It has stimulated many questions from them by providing a good balance between visual interest and information about how life came about and evolved on earth.
