| This book is disturbing and for that reason should be on the short list of required texts for college. Unlike the WWI and WWII war books which read like ancient history this one hits close to home as most of the events transpired within the last decade. The author does a great job of telling his story from a boys point of view with imagery that will give you nightmares.
If you cannot handle reading about graphic violence, rape, murder, wartime atrocities, then do not buy this book. ... Read More: |

| I enjoyed this book. I learned more from the book than I thought I would. If there is room in a Christmas stocking for a book make it this one. I hope he writes a follow up, it would be interesting to see how many of the changes he made permanent. I will be checking to see what he writes next. |

| Kitchen Confidential is a must read for anyone who has ever set foot in the backrooms of a restaurant. Bourdain captures the environment with all its stresses, off-colored language and cooking pride. Kitchen Confidential reads similar to a feature on VH1's Behind the Music as Bourdain battles with his own demons and finds success after many years of debauchery. | What a page turner! Not so much for the next chapter of events, but to bask, to saturate in the delight of the wholesome memories of which I had forgotten so many details. I will revisit Big Russ and Me to restore my belief in the goodness of folks or at least that there was a time when it was genuine. This is a very interesting book and sure opens up a lot of what really went on in our early history. Not all was as well as we were told in school, or what the history books we had told us. |

| I wish I could tell Barbara myself how much I liked her book. It sounds like she is sitting right there telling her memoir. Good read. |

| It was an interesting combination of the standard "my life with my dog" story, a dog training book, and interesting bits of animal psychology/behavioralism. I particularly liked the bits where the author dove down into the physiology/evolution of dogs to explain his dog's behavior.
He really did a amazing job of portraying the thousands of little ways in which we communicate with our dogs and through this he really brought his dog to life. I could totally imagine he and his dog out hunting elk. The book ... Read More: |

| The PIG series is of course a brilliant money-making idea; this book will outsell almost all academic histories by a wide margin, but popularity and value are two different animals. Mostly this book is harmless and often quite funny. Typically the attacks against "Yankee" straw-men are baseless. No serious Civil War historian wants to keep you from reading Jefferson Davis's memoir, or Robert Selph Henry, or Freeman and Emory's biographies of Lee; they just don't want those to be your only sources for the history of the war. | This is Sedaris' best collection of short stories/memoirs/autobiographies. His writing is wonderful, in part because it's hard to separate fact from fiction. He has a true gift for writing. My favorite story is the title one but all are great. These stories are great to read all at once or one at a time! |
