| Sections of this book were assigned to me as coursework. What I read was so entertaining that I immediately purchased the book and had read and reread it within a weekend. I admit that I'd not have seen the depth of O'Brien's true literary genius had my professor not shed light on some of the subtle issues addressed herein (i.e. the retelling of The Lemon Tree story as a portrait of literary progression through history, etc.). | This was a great book for Eric Clapton fans. Great to hear all about the stories behind the songs, the bands,and his battle with drugs and alcohol. Gets a little slow at times, but enjoyable if you really want to get to know him. |

| I enjoyed the actual book much more than the audiobook, mainly because Krakauer reads the text so fast that he takes a lot of the emotion out of the story. |

| One of my earliest memories, at about age 4, is looking over a sea of people at a 1968 Hubert Humphrey rally. My folks were good establishment democrats. They'd also been huge King followers, and had been to the March on Washington. His death was the seminal political event I heard as a young child. They'd been a fan of JFK, of course, but I curiously had heard little of RFK from them. I suspect his death, as it did for so many, sunk them into cynicism and resignation.

| Everyone has their favorite one-volume biography of Lincoln. This is not just mine, but many others' as well. Reason: its narrow focus--the man himself, what he saw, knew, did, and thought, from birth to death. No grand historical sweep here, no psycholgical deconstruction, no "lessons", for historians, or future presidents, or anyone else. Just clean, utterly credible narrative.

| Barnes is bright, entertaining, reflective, and knowledgable and all those positives come together in this discursive treatise on death and many other not totally aligned subjects. I enjoyed my time with him but I kept expecting just a little bit more insight into the main subject: death or rather the fear of death and dying.
