| My 1st grader had to read a biography for a class project and this book fit the bill perfectly. Her reading level is right at the Merlin Mission Magic Tree House book level -- about a hundred pages, give or take, and pictures are still necessary to break up and amplify the text. | I bought this as an additon to a classroom unit I do on Helen Keller. As with all DK books, it is concise and easy to explore and read. It gives even my very young students intereting, factual information in an easily readable/browsable format. |

| There is so much to this book than noted at first glance. First, we get a great dose of history told in a way children can understand it. Secondly, we learn some little known facts about our first president. Thirdly, we have animals, something neither kids nor adults can ever get enough of and fourthly, we get a story packed full of morals. But that is not all. | The first 100 pages of this book are entertaining. He writes in a way that keeps you interested up to a point. I am an avid reader and this book took me many months to finish. I didn't even want to finish it but always feel compelled to do so. History repeats itself and after so many chapters of war I just didn't care anymore. After reading this book I felt that desiring peace in a time of war is hardly possible. Looking back over our history made this clear-humans, power, and violence go hand in hand. |

| I am a huge fan of Sasek so I like every book he's wrote and illsutrated. This one abut Ireland is nice and funny and "greener".
As I think that Sasek is one of the best children illustrator I suggest this one and even the other ones. My daughter loves it and she learns many informations reading it. |

| This was an interesting book. Although, Tookie never really changed his ways. He still shot called and ran things from his cell, and even acted as if he'd backed away from gang life, so he could have his sentence changed from "death" to "life" in prison. He even went as far as to have his white boyfriend (a Prison Inmate tookie was having sexual relations with)walk with him to his execution, instead of one of his crip comrads.. |

| Wonderful introduction to biographies for the early reader set (6-10 yrs old, depending on reading ability). It provides enough info to be useful, but not so much that the child is bogged down and loses interest. The series is fabulous. |
