I would highly reccomend this book for any young reader. It is mainly suitable for the age group of 9-12. The author outlines major historical events of the period without going into the true to life graphic detail of the battles/conditions of the time. Definately a good primer for children to later expand on.

I don't know why this does not have an overall rating of 5. It's a great source for research and also great for spare-time reading.

Diane Stanley, author of a series of high-quality biographies for children, does it again: Joan of Arc is intelligent and interesting with eye-popping illustrations. Of course the story is tragic, so this is not a good first biography for the young, tender-hearted child. The only thing missing is a real sense of the supernatural, what drove Joan to do what she did in the first place. If you're looking for the miraculous in your retelling of Joan's story, choose instead Josephine Poole's breathtaking "Joan ... Read More:

As others have noted, it IS a quiet book, but my children (3rd grade, 2nd grade, and pre-K) enjoyed it very much (although my 3rd grader, looking over my shoulder, said it was just 3 stars because he isn't that interested in planes - ahem).

Anyway, I used this book as part of a short aviation unit study this summer after we came back from Nags Head - we studied the Wright Brothers, Amelia Earhart, and Louis Bleriot.

I absolutely love the illustrations in this book, the author uses a ... Read More:

Books : Just a Few Words, Mr Lincoln (All Aboard Reading)
The Gettysburg Address is one of the two most famous speeches in American history, the other being Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "I Have a Dream Speech." But Lincoln's speech is the most important oration in our nation's history because before these 271 words were uttered at Gettysburg the United States did not really pay attention to the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and the idea that "all men are created equal." At the dedication of the National Cemetary at Gettysburg Lincoln declared that those who died ... Read More:

The actual reading and stories are accurate and valuable information. Many experiments and activities are not very clear or able to be performed as written. This is a better book for reading and the wonderful photographs.

The writing is a bit choppy and hard to read at times. The story itself is great. There is quite a bit of bad language though. So I can't recommend it to younger children.
