I'm a big TR fan, so it was natural to buy this book. The three stars come from the fact that this is a children's book, so the price is a bit much.

My Great Aunt Arizona is a beautifully-written, beautifully-illustrated book based on a real person, the author's great aunt Arizona. We loved the book so much we took a family vacation some years ago to see the area. The artist obviously went there and saw Henson Creek and the real places, just as we did. We saw Great Aunt Arizona's grave site, too, and met the author's mother.

We love this book so much we have donated it to a couple of libraries and given it as gifts many times. ... Read More:

I agree with reviewers who commented on other books in this series-- these are an excellent introduction to biographies and chapter books. My husband and I have read almost all of these "Who was..." books to our now 11 and 9 year old over the past year. I find them easy to read aloud and appropriately illustrated. They lead our family to deeper discussion of the person or history and politics of the time. Marco Polo is my nine-year-olds favorite bio. I found the Einstein bio to be very interesting, my husband ... Read More:

This was the only book on our (homeschool) reading list about Pocahontas but we simply couldn't get past Chapter 4 (though I read the rest myself). My son usually begs me to read more, but with this book he begged me to stop reading altogether.

The historical inaccuracies are blatant and the book isn't even well-written. If you do read it, do so knowing that it is out and out fiction and nothing else. Better yet, watch the Disney movie. It's almost as historically accurate and much more enjoyable.

Beautiful illustrations accompany this simplified story of Rosa Park and the movement she inspired. The writing is very personal, though I was slightly annoyed at how the point of view jumped around instead of staying concise. Still, it's gorgeous, inspirational prose that gives off a lot of passion, and I was able to read it to my class. The illustrations are still the best part.

Books : Meet George Washington (Step-Up Biographies)
The first thing that really struck me about this particular biography on President George Washington was the large font which younger readers and older eyes will both appreciate. The author swiftly moves the reader from Washington's childhood through the death of his older brother and his marriage to Martha Custis to the French and Indian War, the various battles of the Revolutionary War and his retirement and death at Mount Vernon. The story of Washington's chopping down of a cherry tree is included, but the author points out that ... Read More:

I am working my way through this wonderful series of biographies issued
by DK. As I have said in previous reviews, the editing could be a little
sharper, but otherwise they are completely wonderful and enjoyable and
informative books to read. I always find something about the person
that I hadn't known before.

The only niggling beef I have about this particular book is that the author always calls the President Jack. Most likely the idea was to make it more personal but I find it only a little bit short ... Read More:
