| Are there really still mothers who insist their daughters wear pink and force them to do ballet? I bought this thinking it might celebrate girls who enjoy doing both team sports AND dance (like so many girls I know DO), but this presents it as an either/or choice. It's great to encourage girls to do the team sports, but is it really necessary to tear down the other pursuit? My 6 year-old daughter was very disappointed. | It's a great book, I read it for my book report book, and i just absolutely loved it! It's great for kids over 9+. It teaches you the whole life story, and some people she worked with, including Liza Minnely, and Madonna. And her whole family, to her dad, mom, sisters, to her nanny, look inside this book for another persons life, that you just get lost in, when i read it, i thought i was there.

This is a very good and happy book with one sad part. I did not like when Clara's brother took the nutcracker from her and his head fell off! This made me very sad. My favorite part of the book is when the nutcracker turns into a prince and is wearing the king's crown on his head. This is also my favorite picture. I also liked the part of the story when they went to see the Sugar Plum Fairy. I liked all the candy and dancing in the pictures. ... Read More: |

| This book is, for starters, quite visually beautiful. However, it can be confusing for children because of the way it is done. The "red" is actually magenta (looks like hot pink) and the "blue" is actually cyan (looks like turquoise). Because of the four-color printing process, some of the color blends are quite murky, the different shades of purple are not distinct, etc. It might actually be better enjoyed as a wordless introduction to colors for the smallest children, who will love to just look at the pictures. |
