| I think that Konigsburg writes in an intelligent way, considering the age groups that will be reading the book and how they're going to interpret the material.
Telling the story of a sixth grade academic team, and how they can pull together to become friends, 'The View From Saturday' is a feel good novel that everyone who loves friendship and a learning experience should read. |

| My children, ages 6 and 4, both loved the book. The story line was cute, so they absorbed the lesson without really knowing there was a lesson to be learned! Of course, an otter tooted in the story, so what four year old boy wouldn't love it! I am bringing this into my preschool classroom to share with those children as well. |

| I slip this book into the bedtime rotation a couple times per month. Of all the Berenstain Bears books, this one elicits the most uncomfortable looks from my two, young boys.
That said, the book touches on the value of the truth as well as the problems that result from being a tattler. The book is a great tool for reminding children about values and acts as a springboard to discuss real-world issues. | Hoot is an exceptional book with a respectable message. While I was reading it I was thinking it's okay, that's interesting, hmmm, aha, oh, ect. But what I never thought was wow!, cool, haha, weird, oh no! and so on. I felt like the author lacked passion, the comedy was juvenile, and the drama unrealistic. When I was done reading I was actually a little relieved it was over! That has never happened to me before. | Let me just say that I love the artwork here. I love the clean black-and-white, and the strong lines. I think it's very well-suited for this story.
Unfortunately, some aspects of the story... I'm not so thrilled with. I think that the kitten suffers more than enough on his quest (it gets almost painful for me to read). I also just don't find the story itself that interesting. My nieces haven't requested a re-read. *shrugs* Can't like every book, I guess. Good thing I checked this out from the library first! |
