| A lively and entertaining book for readers of any age. My middle school students did not find the material too juvenial and I believe that the approach to a tragic event is gentle enough for younger children. I was impressed by the detail provided about both life in ancient Rome and the science behind the eruption of Vesuvius. Excellent! |

| What an amazing find! We came across this book while looking for Ancient Egypt textbooks and we love it. The author has done an outstanding job and is obviously well researched. The fascination the Egyptians had with cats is very interesting and this book draws you straight into it. Highly recommended and the illustrations are the perfect accompaniment. Just lovely! |

| This is a wonderful biography of Alexander the Great for children. It is clear, easy to read and facinating from page 1 right up to the end of the book. It covers the story of the great King of Macedonia from his babyhood right up to his death. Alexander was powerful and successful for 12 years but pressed on with little rhyme or reason at the end. | Another wonderful book revealing the ancient world. It reads clear and smooth. The illustrations of the soldier's dress and war machines make Connolly's book a must for wargamers.
Mr. Connolly has produced a masterpeice that has been used in my high school. We have learned about the Romans and had fun doing it.As a high school teacher in history, I highly reccommend all his books. |

It has a more personal narration then most books on Egypt--partly due to the authors use of first person narrative and partly due to his passion and enthusiasm on the subject. The effect is the reader takes more then just a factual view of data surrounding stories of Curses in Egypt but rather a personalized look at Archaeology.
