| I read several other books from this series aloud to my five year old but had to stop halfway through this one. Amelia had a bit of a difficult life with her father's alcoholism, parent's divorce, occasional poverty and ultimate loss at sea. There are other allusions to people dying in plane crashes. The books about Neal Armstrong, John Glenn and the Wright Brothers from this series were more appropriate for a five year old. |

| My 18 month old boy loves this book. Donald Crews illustration style, with big, bold visuals, allows him to easily enjoy the story as it moves from scene to scene. The richly colored landscapes give him so much to look at, and are a nice alternative to the very simple pictures of typical baby books. My only negative is that it is not a board book, so one needs to make sure baby won't destroy the pages while looking at it. ('Truck' by Donald Crews is a board book, and is very good) |

The book is amazingly concise, and yet it covers all of the important developments in aviation. My experience as a lifelong aviation enthusiast and private pilot makes me a good judge of this material. | A hard working pair of brothers pulled their resources together to invent the airplane. It's amazing story and it's amazing that they did it. The fact that people died during the process makes it more amazing. Now a days they would be hit with lawsuits a plenty and everything might have been shut down. I found this story one I would want to share with my students in 8th grade. They are studying inventions currently in class. This book is a wonderful resource for them. |

| I bought this to use in my 6th grade reading classroom. It is excellent to use to teach reading skills such as main idea, author's purpose, or summarizing. I put it in a center and students have 10 minutes to use the book for an assignment. Since it is at a lower reading level, students have success in building skills to use in higher level texts.
This book is a good addition to the grade 1-6 classroom library. |
