| I first read this book when I was in third grade. I was about halfway through the book when I had to fling it across the room from me in utter horror. Eventually, the pull of the book was too strong: I picked it up, finished it, and sulked for a week. And ever since then, whenever I try to reread it, I end up tossing it across the room, screaming, pulling my hair: the characters just get under your skin. You *care* about what happens to them.

| While it's fine that it was written by a kid, the writing is painfully bad. If you want to read good writing rather than a gimmick, try another book. |

| I remember enjoying these books as a boy and love sharing them with my son. Besides being enjoyable stories with admirable characters they are great for teaching reading. Solving the puzzles requires reading with attention to the details, logic and imagination. Sometimes young readers would rather skip difficult to read details but with these books they know they need to get each word.

| I thoroughly enjoyed both the story and the characters! It was refreshing to meet a dad I actually liked for a change and I loved Moose and his friends. Moose's relationship with his autistic sister Natalie was particularly appealing and the setting (Alcatraz) was a stroke of genius.

| I was a little worried when my brother bought the first book for my then 6 year old (now 7 year old) son. It set on my sons book shelf for about a year as we read through other books he had. The about a month ago he asked me to read it with him. I was hooked, it is so easy to read and so entertaining that I had hardly noticed we had read for about an hour and finished the book. | Perfect; see monsterology! This is an awesome book! The only problem is that it doesn't have as much cool bookletts and things you can interact, but by itself it is really awesome! It has some monsters you would recognize and some new ones! |
