| we took this set of books to our grandson in Israel (10 years old) and he read them all before our visit was over and we were there for 10 days! He couldn't put them down and now I have ordered the next set for when they come out in September. Thank you for making these so interesting that a 10 year old wants to read every waking hour! |

A lonely little girl finds a stray dog who can smile. This preacher's daughter has been to India ( was named after it), but lost her mother very early. Sadness and loneliness give way to new friends and good times as Winn-Dixie wins friends her in the Florida summer. The book is well written and a heart string plucker. Most children and grandparents should enjoy the stories here. |

| Kids in grades 4-5 will love this book! It is a bit too easy for middle school kids, but a fun read none the less. It is written unlike most other chapter books. It is written more like an interview conducted with each character as the school year progresses and problems arise with Belch. This book can teach valuable lessons on ethics and morals. | I read "City of Ember" a while ago and managed to ignore Duprau's penchant for unrealistic dialogue, flat characters, and deus ex machina because the idea was intriguing enough to continue. And in "People of Sparks" DuPrau has semi-intriguing ideas about human nature and civilization and all that, but oh my goodness this woman's writing seems to only have gotten WORSE.
