This book explains foster adoption very well. My niece loves this book and has told me that the child we are adopting she is going to adopt them as well, as a sister. I guess if I can be the Mom then she doesn't have to be a cousin she is going to be the sister. Very good four year old logic. It is a great book, I love the use of animals instead of people doesn't make the process seem scary and has good messages for everyone involved in an adoption.

The Wanderer is a book about a journey on The Wanderer. It appears that the title of the book is just the name of the boat, but the reader may look at it as a metaphor describing Sophie, and how she is wandering through life. The book is written in the style of a journal, written by Sophie. The reader also gets another point of view from a journal by Cody. The writing style is written just as a child would write in a journal. Sophie's entries were much more in depth, while Cody's entries were a little ... Read More:

I read this book to my daughter and I cried. It felt like this book was our family story. We lost Rebel after 14 years and rescued Sneakers from the SPCA soon after. My daughter asked a lot of the same questions as the boy in the book. I highly recommend this story to everyone.

John Worth is an Orphan Train child, the sole survivor of the fire which killed his family. Nate Peale is a child of the prairie; his family struggles to homestead on the Nebraska plains. Neither boy has the ideal life; the question the book obviously asks is how will each find worth, value in the difficulties each has been handed. It is a deep study, this developing sense of worth, and the book handles it from the viewpoint of Nate, in a straightforward, no-nonsense, abrupt manner reflective of the rather ... Read More:

I first picked up this book because it sounded interesting and because our daughter is adopted and I know eventually she'll come home one day from school with homework on her family tree or heritage. I really liked this book and liked how the main character Joseph did his final paper on how he is a ethnic sandwich... being Korean on the outside and Italian on the inside. I enjoyed learning about Korea, a little about it's culture and the great Olympian Sohn Kee Chung.

This would be a terrific book for adopted ... Read More:

I have a daughter, now 31, who was adopted from Korea when she was nine years old. Not easy to find a book that would be suitable for her experience, I thought I would look at this book. I was frankly disappointed that no mention was given to the older child. But, when she read it, she was moved by the pictures and was pleased to take it home. She related to the pictures of the babies, not unlike the ones with whom she traveled to the U.S., in rows of airplane seats. She was impressed with the foster mothers in Korea, though she was in an ... Read More:

Marketed like it was a full sized book, it is not. Good stuff but it's only 29 pages long which was disappointing. It was highly recommended.

A good book to add to your young one's library whether s/he is brown or white. The pictures are a mix of photos and drawings that lend themselves to wonderful discussions. My first read I was not that impressed but as I shared it with my Granddaughter and saw the pictures and heard the words through her ~ I was hooked because she was hooked!

I usually love assigned school books e.g. charlotte doyle, maniac mcgee but this one made me want to curl up inside of my desk and sleep. There are some worthless parts to this story, and though a very interesting and amazing topic the main character was lacking. With some strange plot twists (remember me by these persimmon seed buttons! [what was that about?]) and some boring bits ( being stuck in a tree for more then one chapter) This book is not my favorite.
