| I gave this book five stars because, more than any other technique we've tried, it has helped my daughter stop sucking her thumb. Now four years old, she had been sucking her thumb since she was about six months old. We've tried rewards, sticker charts, threatening loss of privileges, talking with the dentist, the works. Nothing worked. This book, in three weeks, has taken my daughter's bad habit from an all-day activity to just one she does in her sleep. | We started our Clifford journey with "Clifford the Big Red Dog". It is a really good story. The others are not as enjoyable from a parent perspective. This sone is nice that it has fire safety eduction in it. It's not so nice that Clifford destroys a man's fruit stand and just laughs it off. |

| i thought this book was going to be good, but i didn't know it would be this good. each well-known childrens' book writer/illustrator writes about their lives, influences and inspirations.
included are ealry photos, first drawings and a full page self-portrait. so thoughtfully put together. a beautiful book to browse through and inspire you and your children to pick up a tool and draw, paint and create. |

I used to wonder how he came by such an unusual first name until I read that his family originally came from Norway. All of that and more is written in this small book, and some 81 five star reviews preceding mine attest to how truly entertaining it really is. | I guess I didn't miss much by not reading this book as a child. I don't really understand why it became a classic. It starts out interestingly enough with a very gothic setting. A little British girl named Mary survives a cholera epidemic in India and is sent to Yorkshire to live with her distant relatives. The author gives a vivid description of the beauty of the moors and the mysterious mansion that the girl goes to live in. | We received this as a present for our daughter, and our first thought was "How adorable!" The box set is very cute, and the brown fur covered book is certainly attractive to a child's curious little fingers, but that is where it ends for us.
Our daughter enjoys petting and pulling the fur, but the story and illustrations do not hold her attention. Even the sounds (kerchoo, thump, kerplunk, ssip, etc.) didn't catch her attention as they usually do. The illustrations are softer than most children's books and are not eye ... Read More: |

| And we all remember them from our own childhoods.
Unfortunately, they're really pretty wordy books. A lot of children in the age range for these books simply can't sit still through them. This book takes it a bit further in that most of it is not about the bad dream at all, but about the events leading *up* to the bad dream. Which is great and realistic, but which may lead a small child (or a grown-up) to wonder what the point is? The story could easily have been told in half the pages and - and this I *know* because ...
