My Stroke of Insight is one of the best books I've read. It is Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor's experience of a stroke... from the inside. I'm entering my final year of the Physical Therapist Assistant program. I will always remember Dr. Bolte Taylor's experience of how health professionals made her feel when she was under their care. I will strive to be a health care provider who will make my patients feel safe and well cared for.

XXXXX

"I have tried in this book to present the basic concepts of randomness, to illustrate how they apply to human affairs, and to present my views that its effects are largely overlooked in our interpretations of events and in our expectations and decisions. It may come as an epiphany merely to recognize the ubiquitous role of random processes [including chance and uncertainty] in our lives; the true power of the theory of random processes, however, lies in the fact that once we understand ... With over 1,000 reviews on Amazon it is quite unlikely you will read anything different in my review than all the other five star reviews. I must say that Jared Diamond has written an extraordinary book. The question he tackles with GGS is, "Why and how did wealth and power develop in some areas and not in others."

Diamond concludes that wealth and power can be contributed to several factors: an East/West axis, domesticable plants and animals, this results in food surpluses and thus sedentary ... Read More:

This book is typical for a college text. It is full of information pertaining to introductions to biology. My only complaint is that it only has information rather than explaining how it determines the information.

This is a fascinating book, but one that could be improved. However, the positive (FOR, below) much outweighs the negative (AGAINST, below).

FOR: This book is full of interesting material, most of which is well explained. It follows how eusocial insects construct complex insect societies that display apparent group intelligence by using only a small number of chemical signals and stereotyped responses. It seeks to understand how such complex societies came to exist, based on the competing interactions of selection ... Read More:

very interesting book that does a good job of using historical and current phenomenon to illustrate how things would turn out. personally, i love the idea of a world without people and found this to be a very appealing book.

Do not listen to the naysayers. Most of the negative comments by above reviewers seem to come from those physics elitists who may (or may not) already know a lot about the discipline. But for those who either don't care or weren't paying attention Dr. Kaku has dedicated a lot just trying to get people to become interested in science. This only goes to show how much he has been paying attention to the social state of affairs regarding lack of interest in science in this country and that he cares enough to try to reach out to people. What better way than to ... Read More:

This book puts the body of knowledge in evolutionary biology in the right perspective. Because we are macro beings, because we in this society live and deal at organism level, so we tend to believe that everything revolves around this level. What this book does is to encourage you to think form the perspective of molecular level, the gene's level. After all, they came first in the tree of evolutiona nd they also come first in building the organisms...
PLIUS it's a good read.

As assigned reading for a book club, Your Inner Fish became for me a page-turning, fascinating read with enough described real-life excitement to generate my own mind-expeditions through the Arctic, voyages to the cliffs of Nova Scotia, and tedious hours in labs carefully excavating fragile fossil from ancient rock. I felt a little like an armchair Indiana Jones. The expedition leader is Professor Neil Shubin, who reads like a humble storyteller sitting around the fire after a hard day negotiating barren rock-strewn hills, wondering apprehensively about the significance ... Books : The Developing Person Through the Life Span
I am taking a psychology class on line using this book. I was anxious for the class to start as I thought the subject material would be interesting. It is, and the book is well written and informative. However, now that the class is in its last 3 or 4 weeks, I'm getting a little tired.

Each section is covered in 3 chapters. For example, for adolescence you have a chapter about the biological changes, then about the cognitive changes, then about the psychological changes of that stage of life. After going through almost the whole book like that, I'm a little bored. ... Read More:
