| The work created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons is one of those rarities that transcend genres. Rorschach is the main character and his personality makes one wonder if he's the good, the bad, or the ugly. Is he judge, jury, and executioner or is he the outlaw he seems to hunt? | This book is worth every bit of praise it gets. Frank Miller created a masterpiece with this work. And even a die-hard Marvel fan that I am came to appreciate the Dark Knight through this book. The book itself is almost a legend among comics, but don't buy it for that. Buy it for the story and the insidious art that doesn't have much appeal at first, but by the end you can't picture the story being told in any other style. At least I can't.

| You must buy it for the artwork. It the most beautiful artwork I ever seen in a Batman book. I read a review here saying the recoloring in this book is bad. This reviewer is so wrong. Recoloring this book is the best thing that ever happened! I literally compare the original with this book side by side before I made the purchase and it is night and day! | With Marjane Satrapi's animated film playing in theatres and available on disc, I almost jumped at the chance to read her book, the part-comic/part-memoir of Satrapi's childhood in Tehran, Iran.

| If you ever hear about Batman: Year One, it's most likely the praise of the story's origins and reinvention. I read it pretty fast, in a day or so, and it was pretty entertaining, but not as good as I'd hoped. I think Frank Miller is a pretty good storyteller, but maybe it's just not my thing. Regardless, it was a good read and it gave me a little bit of insight towards Batman's origins.
I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, but I'm leaning more towards 3 on this one. Pick it up if you're a Batman fan though, definitely. |

| This is not your typical batman. Heck, this is not even the Miller Dark Knight. It makes Miller's Dark Knight seem like a puppy dog. This Batman kills and he kills with no reservations. Batman does not really behave as Batman but I can totally accept that because even a superhero has his moods or split personalities on certain days, no? The story is somewhat contrived as Batman is called to Asylum for help only to be put in a test where he has to face all his nemesis' and in the end everyone learns a lesson. | I recently gave two of these books to an 8-year old boy. He loves reading and devoured these books in a couple of days. He stayed up with the proverbial lamp under the covers the first night to finish the first book. He loved the books. |

| The Long Halloween turns Batman into what he certainly should be, a pseudo-detective, dark, mysterious night-searcher. The mob theme is a universe which suits Batman very, very well, and the story mixes in the classic archenemies perfectly.
Basically, this is perfect for any Batman fan, and you should go pick it up. |

| Okay, this is seriously one of the most brilliant books I have ever read, and I have Henry (who is also brilliant) to thank for introducing this to me. (Thank you, Henry.) Although this book has been around since '93, I suspect it's nowhere near as recognized as it deserves to be, but with time that will change, I hope.
