At the time of purchase, I was a brand new iPhone developer with zero exposure to Apple's developer tools and their iPhone SDK. | I currently am a Web App Developer who uses C# and Visual Studio. I have been using macs forever and wanted to learn how to code for the iPhone and figured this is the best place to start learning Objective-C. This book is very good at explaining Objective-C and how to write code for it. I am at the eighth chapter and already am writing my own code. | I bought this book when I needed a laptop and was trying to decide between a pc and a macbook. The book explained the differences very well so I understood what I was getting and what I was giving up by purchasing a mac. I decided to buy a Macbook and since then, this book has been invaluable. I am not ignorant but I'm far from being a geek and this book is awesome for explaining how to do things in a straight forward manner, with explicit step by step directions. | Although I have granted this book 4 stars -- a pretty favorable rating -- mine is another one of those dissenting opinions you will see in the current set of reviews.
I have given 4 stars because I think the Head First folks' aims are laudable; however (and this is a big however), for me the approach simply doesn't work, and I feel as though if I'd spent a little time with the book prior to ordering it I would have given it a miss. | I just spent a few days going through this book and learned a lot. I've been working with PHP for years, but never did much complicated code. I studied Java about 8 years ago also and learned a lot about OOP from that. But never did any programming in Java. So it was all concept, no experience.
