| This is a solid pick in my boys' bedtime reading collection.
I've found the trick to reading this book at bedtime is to tackle it as one long sentence with breathless pacing, punctuated by exasperated gasps and groans. My kids giggle with delight as Alexander grumps through his day, complaining about every perceived slight or wound as though their sum could prove to be fatal. | I was in 4th grade when my mom first forced me to read this book with her. I did not want to at all, because I thought it looked stupid. Luckily, she didn't give me much of a choice. If she had, I never would have read one of my favorite books or discovered one of my very favorite authors! Really, everyone should give this book a chance! | It had been many years since I read the first two books. I recently took the books off my shelves and reread them and realized that even as an adult, past the "youg adult" stage of life, these are wonderful stories. I was amazed to see the copyright date and see that it was 100 years since Lucy Maud first wrote them. Anne girl has withstood the test of time. | The book is written in nice,figurative language, but it is far too sad. The book starts out like not such a bad story, but then suddenly it hits this spot with terrible sadness and frustration. Yet, it gives far too many details of how terribly some of the people in the story die. Basically what happens in this story in the sad part is when 2 people accidentally make dangerous, careless mistakes, which lead to the killing of 2 other people. | It is so great to be able to read stories to your children that your parents read as children! This is such a timeless clasic. My 3 1/2 year old son loves it and we would recommend it to all parents! |
