| I read Fast Food Nation a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed this. When I saw this book, by the same author, I assumed it was a sequel to Fast Food Nation with updated information and targeted to the same audience. Unfortunately, my assumptions were incorrect. This book is primarily targeted toward young readers. Where Fast Food Nation is jammed pack with great information, this book is slimmer, has larger type, and many more pictures. | Although this book has a few useful tips
I was disappointed with the recipes Such as Pickle Roll. Piece of cheese and a dill pickle. Roll cheese around pickle is the recipe. Tell child how to wrap pickle around cheese and eat. Or "prepare ahead of time" I was disappointed I paid money for a book to tell me to wrap a piece of cheese around a dill pickle and called it a recipe. Also I noticed repeat recipes. | The thing that I really like about this book was that all the sentences weren't the same. It did not just say "these are bananas, these are tomatoes" all the time, but integrated questions, and even characteristics of the fruits and vegetables. The pictures are bright and colorful, and made me want to go buy a piece of fruit right then. | My kids (age 5 1/2 and 3) and I checked this out from the library. They LOVED it and asked me to read it so many times I've purchased our own copy. Even though we haven't read it in a while, the kids are always asking if a food is a "green, yellow or red light" food. I'm blessed that my kids eat pretty healthily, but we do battle with candy and other junk occasionally. I remind them that if they don't eat green light foods they won't grow or feel well. I highly recommend this book! |

| This book was published nearly 10 years ago, so yes, the food pyramid is outdated, but that aside, it contains the basic info needed to introduce children to the entire concept of how food is fuel for our bodies. The age group, 4-8, is pretty accurate, and as long as you modify the number of servings while reading this with youngsters, there is really nothing taken away from its content. | This book is more about recovering than actually going through the anorexia process. I don't suggest the book if you're not ready to recover. Although, it occasionally gives out some tips and tricks, it's just not worth it. I would recommend reading Wasted by Marya Hornbacher or The Best Little Girl in the World if you're still on your journey to becoming a skinnier you. |
