| Great introduction to these concepts for young kids. I had already explored the different states of water with my 6 year old, but it was nice to be able to reinforce that process. My son often said, "I already know that" for the basic concepts, but I felt that the specific examples of the different states of all types of matter were very helpful in getting him to understand that there's an order to the way things work. | I bought this book for my 5-yr.-old son and it was a huge hit. He will look at it for a couple of days and then it's back on the shelf, but it regularly is pulled off again. He loves the little Pokemon-like characters and is getting tonnes of info (as am I) about the elements of the periodic table at the same time. He also makes it a point to tell everyone that there is chromium in our spoons which always catches them off guard :) |

| This book is a good study aid if you have a good instructor. However, depending on this book to teach you chemistry may become a little confusing (as my high school teacher is currently doing). I noticed that it's not very straightforward. Say you were learning about radiation - the types of radiation and how decay occurs. The text itself won't tell you exactly how the mass or atomic number changes after a certain radioactive decay. | My eight year old daughter asked for a chemistry set for her birthday; a real chemistry set; one she could do real experiments with. There are no longer many quality chemistry sets on the market. I guess the safety regulations are too strict; making it unprofitable to sell "real" chemistry sets. I ordered this book. I was concerned I would end up having to mail order supplies, but I made one trip to the grocery store and my daughter was set to work through the book.
