| My son has been fascinated with this book. He understands so much more than I gave him credit for. He's only 2.5 years old, but he's EXTREMELY verbal and very bright when it comes to books. However, I agree with the english teacher/mommy that it is NOT for the average toddler. I think a bright preschooler or for the child who is fascinated with plants and flowers, it is quite appropriate. | What this book is NOT, to be clear, is a good read-aloud. It's tedious if used that way.
What it *is* is a good, step-by-step instruction of a basic science project for little ones. If you use it that way, reading every step as you go through it and not before, it's wonderful. I find the reading age suggested on this book (3-6) to be a little young. Try 6-8 instead. |

| I have read this book to my 6 & 8 yr old grandkids. Actually, my 8-yr old read most of it to me. Beyond what the other reviewers say, this book will be attractive to kids over a range of ages -- and interesting over more than 1 year -- because at one end, a good part of the text is readable, even poetic, and nontechnical; and another part is rather technical, meaning that the kids will learn something new each time they read it. | I liked this book a great deal because it gave you alot of information such as George invented peanut recipes.The author made you feel like you were actually in the book.It made me feel like I wasn't even reading the book.I think that this book is a great choice to read. |

| I just love this book and the entire series of "Rookie Read About" books by Allan Fowler. Thoughtful and simple explanations, and great photos. I started reading this book to my two year old son, and though it was a little early for him, he understood a surprising amount of it. He's still enjoying and learning from it at 3... gives us lots of things to talk about as he explores the world. His little friends enjoy these books too when I read to them. The series is probably best for children between 3 and 6. |

| Having purchased this book to use in teaching a class to small shildren, I am always delighted to see just how much excellent info and clear pictures are included in such a pleasant and appealing style-a poem musically winds through the book, holding the attention of the younger child to gently plant the seeds of information in their fertile little heads! |

| It took me a while to actually pick this book up and use it with my kids. When I did, I was pleasantly surprized. With multiple ages of elementary age children, it was a nice way to study a subject together (which you just can't do with readers and math). I or my eldest would read several paragraphs then have someone tell back what they understood from the passages as we went along.
