| My son loved this book. My son has ADHD and it is torture for me to get him to sit still and read or do homework. I purchased this book on a whim and hoped he would at least look at it. My son is 8 1/2 and blew through this book in 3 weeks, I bought the second one and he read that one in less than a week1! |

This book was great for a few reasons... Theme - a utopian society will always be relevant and always be thought provoking. Especially when its well written like The Giver is. I find the theme to be incredibly interesting, especially since I have only ever read one other similar novel which was 1984. Size and syle - It was short, very easy to read and follow. | My son who is two had no interest in this book and he loves all types of books from Dr Seuss to the Byron Barton vehicle series. This book was too wordy and slow moving. I also thought it was confusing that the character in the book is a "hare" which is a tough word for a toddler that is already figuring out why sometimes they're called rabbits and other times bunnies! Anyway, we'll save this one for later. |
