| I picked this one up at Powell's Books (Sorry, Amazon -- nothing personal!) because I liked The House of Scorpion, which I read earlier this year, and when I went to look for other books by the same author, I found one about trolls. And Vikings. How could you go wrong with that?

| Armstrong Sperry's story of Mafatu, who is afraid of the ocean, does come alive with great and detailed descriptions about life in Polynesian islands which includes life, environment, and religion. The book is somewhat slow at times. The book is decent for young readers including struggling readers. Sperry's writing is clear and the story of Mafatu who tries to prove his courage despite his fear of the water. The book is satisfactory for me. |

| I would not read them back to back. The call of the Wild was my 1st and was outstanding. Not too long but yet you really get involved in the way a dog see's our world. Good Reading. |

| I purchased this book for my middle school daughter. Boy did it show how hard life was for early Americans traveling across the Oregon Trail. This book is a great way to show today's kids how easy they really have it! |

| All I can say about this book is "Bo-o-oring! After wonderful and lavishly illustrated dinosaur books of Yollen, this one (we took it in a library) is very disappointing. My daughter didn't like it, and neither did I. Maybe it's appealing to very young toddlers that still learn their colors, but it's sort of blah for my 22-month old.
