| The artwork in this book is really nice and detailed. But as far as Halloween books it isn't ranking up high for my 4yo son's favorites. He thinks some of the illustrations are "scary" and call me overprotective, but I wasn't thrilled with the devil page. In a year or two I expect my son will like it a lot more. |

| I love the message of this book, but it is sad when we look around at our world today and see so much "country" turning into city. Loved this one as a child and am reading to my son now. |

| I read this book years ago and now finally bought it. Now I can read it to my Preschool class this year. I think it is very sweet. Obviously the point is to make the reader think that Mr. Moose and his friends are getting a turkey to eat for Thanksgiving dinner. In actuality they insist the turkey come with them because Mr. Moose promised his wife a turkey for Thanksgiving ("Like everyone else"---so sad it's the norm). Happily the turkey discovers he's a guest for a vegan dinner rather than the maincourse! ... Read More: |

| We all know and love this story. In this special anniversary addition, the publishers have included a beautiful painting of Hagrid and the First Years crossing the lake by Mary GrandPre as well as a hand drawn sketch of Snape by J.K. Rowling herself. The dust cover art is of Harry looking into the Mirror of Erised (my favorite chapter). The book itself is covered in Gryffindor house colors -- scarlet with gold stars all over it. | The audio book is truly excellent. I strongly recomend it, not only to youths. The CD is a full version of the book. It's performed by Jim Dale, who does an excellent job so that it's hard to believe that there's only one actor.

| I have to say I was disappointed in many things about this book.
First and foremost, it didn't grab my attention at the initial start of the book, like the previous books had. Then, the insertion of the flashbacks at the first third of the book I felt was, confusing. Added to that, they seemed to drone on a bit longer than they needed. Thirdly, the relationship between Harry and Dumbledore seemed to suddenly turn in another direction..which didn't feel 'true' to me based on the relationship portrayed in the previous ... | This, the second book in the Harry Potter series, is better than the first, but not as good as the others. But that is just my opinion. In this book, Harry is beginning to wonder if he belongs at Hogwarts after a series of unfortunate events. I won't say anything else, exept that the series is a must read. |

| I've read elsewhere that this book is about resisting peer pressure. That sub-story is over in the first few pages and really does little but set the scene. What this story is really about is courage, self-sacrifice, and the protection of innocent life against a world that often is far too dangerous. Many adults could benefit from giving this a read and taking it to heart, and yet it's not preachy or over the heads of the children it is targetted towards.
