This book was an instant hit, and we have sung it many times each day for my 12 month old grandson. The board book form is especially important for a book so "loved" by toddlers.

Got this too, after seeing it on Reading Rainbow. I grew up 30 mins from where Humphrey was and remembered it from when I was a kid. I wanted to share it with my kids and they love it too.

This is yet another fine addition to a great series for young children. It contained quite a bit of information on whales, but not too much for young readers to digest. The illustrations could have been a bit more varied.

4.Moby Dick by: Allan Drummond, Herman Melville
1997-04
Average Rating: out of 5 stars
>>More Details
Books : Moby Dick
I started reading this book to my son when he was less than 2 years old, he loves it and asks for it often before bed. Now that he is 2 1/2 he pretends to be Moby Dick or one of the harpooners. The drawings are poetically evocative and full of detail of water, ships, adventure and nature. The story line is true to the original and still interesting to this mom, even after many many readings. I highly recommend.

5.O Is for Orca: A Pacific Northwest Alphabet Book by: Andrea Helman

Books : O Is for Orca: A Pacific Northwest Alphabet Book
This is an interesting and attractive introductory book on animals of the Northwest for young readers. However, since it's written at about 3.5 reading level, it may be too difficult for its intended audience.

Also, it's a bit of a stretch as an alphabet book, since the alphabet is merely used as a vehicle for tying the photos and text together. It works for single words like bear, coyote, deer and eagle, however most children won't relate to fir tree as an "F" word, since the ... Read More:

Books : The Whales' Song
This story is about the beauty of whales, yet it has aspects that refer back to the economic value that whaling had before the days of petroleum products and over killing. Lilly is a young girl who lives by the ocean and her grandmother is telling her the story of the whales. How peaceful they are and how she would watch them and occasionally even hear them singing to her. Lilly's great-uncle Frederick provides the counterpoint, calling the grandmother's stories about whales silly and pointing out how ... Read More:

8.Big Blue Whale by: Nicola Davies

Books : Big Blue Whale
A wonderfully succinct overview of the blue whale and it's habits.

The clear, sweet prose makes delivery of the content easy, and the very fine, soft illustrations demand repeated veiwing. My Preschool and Kindergarten ESL students found it highly engaging.

If there's a better science and read-aloud book around I'd really like to know about it. TEN stars.

Follow this book up with the superb "Is a Blue Whale the Biggest Thing There Is?" by Robert E. Wells. Wells' book uses the ... Read More:
