| Kate DeCamillo write such wonderful characters! Despereaux, Chiaroscuro, miggery Sow-- all fabulous, even if they happen to be villains. the fact that DiCamillo gives each character's sad backstory makes all of them just that much more believable. What a great fairy tale! Soup for everyone! |

| NIMH is a great book for young readers (11-13). The book is a great story about survival, sacrifice, and challenged me to root for a mob of rats.
Mrs. Frisby is a very sympathetic character that shows that regardless of species in literature, moms are moms, and they'll do whatever it takes to take care of their family. I think that young readers will enjoy this book, but older teenage readers could balk at the subject rather wanting to read something more intuned to their interests. |

| Very cute illustrations and simple text introduces color mixing. Yellow and blue make green, etc. I always read this story to my kindergarten children and then we experiment with finger paints. Great activity! |

| My son is 7 and an advanced reader, but he doesn't pick up a book for fun--until we checked this one out of the library. Now he is interested in all Beverly Cleary books. This classic from my childhood (the first Cleary book I ever read too) still holds up. The interactions between Ralph and Keith are realistic and sweet, Ralph's adventures on the motorcycle are thrilling, and the world inside the hotel is vivid. | The reason I say exciting is because when my granddaughter saw this book, she was excited. After the book arrived at my house, she saw it and remembered it from school. I plan to read this book to my class at school. I had never read it before and I am very pleased with this book. |

| It really seems as though the author is stretching a bit. The story doesn't totally hang together to me, and it seems more cutesy than cute, if that makes sense. Like she's trying too hard.
My nieces enjoy it well enough, but I would suggest the original instead. |

| My son Ben, who is about to go into 2nd grade, calls this his favorite book of all time. He is especially fond of the illustrations - and we have even decided that we should frame the dustcover! That is a pretty ringing endorsement from a 7 year old!
We plan to buy all of the books in the "Mouse" series over the next year. Perhaps we will buy them in order of seasons/holidays. |
