I love this story so I bought it for my son. When we got it there were at least 10 blank pages in the book fragmenting the story so badly that it didnt make any sence. My beef is not with the story its with Amazon for selling it to me in that condition and with the publisher for their quality control issues. I only paid 6.99 for it so I didnt mess with returning it. Im going to try it again and see if we can get the whole story this time. If the book is not right this time I will return it and ... I love this story. I find myself smiling and getting that warm, fuzzy feeling as the father rabbit and son exchange conversation about how much they love each other, each one topping the other's love.

This is one of the first books that I bought for my son because it tells of the boundless love that a parent has for their children. Truly, one of the sweetest children's books ever written.

I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Highly recommend.

This is one of the most enjoyable books I have ever read. I never heard of it growing up, and my parents were diligent in providing us with the classics. Even today most of the customers in my bookstore don't know it exists. This is a crime, because it belongs right up there with Alice in Wonderland and The Wind in the Willows. It's a fantasy about a bored little boy who gets into a magic car and goes through the phantom tollbooth into a land of adventure. He must rescue the princesses Rhyme and Reason ... Read More:

Redwall is a great story about animals trying to defend themselves from the evil ones, but I would be careful who I recommend it to. I enjoyed most of it, with the exception of some of the rough scenes wherein someone dies or is tortured. The author doesn't make a great deal of it, yet they are descriptive and perhaps too much for younger readers, or listeners... an adult can handle it fine.

"Who will defend Redwall Abbey,
in its days of peril and strife?
The beast who shuns both armour and sword,
Torn from the simple life.
He with destiny marked on his brow,
Who walks with the banished one.
Send forth a maid to seek out the Flame,
To rule when the old Lord is gone!"

This is a book for the young, but it is also a good book for the parents and everyone in between.
I had this book w/record when I was a little girl and the meaning behind this very small simple book came to mind many times through my life... (middle aged now) It resonated with me because I perceived my family didn't believe in me, didn't think I would amount to anything, treated me as if I was stupid and laughed at me, my dreams... so I grew up trying to be my own "cheerleader"... which was daunting at times... yet, like this boy planting the carrot seed, I also ... I just don't particularly like it, and neither do my children. The story isn't interesting and the illustrations aren't engaging. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, and since my copy just takes up space on our bookshelf, I will probably donate it to the next church fund raiser. After all, it's in perfect condition.

I grew up in the states, but my parents lived for a time in Europe before having a family and spent many hours in book shops(their hobby). Forty-some years ago my mother (whose taste in literature was instinctive and impeccable)found a boxed set for me (who knows where) and I have memories of that being the best Christmas present I ever got. They were charming, sensitive, adorable, witty little stories that withstand the test of time admirably. The characters are unforgettable; they let their hearts out to play in a way that readers young(and old)can empathize with. And ... Read More:
