Gulliver enjoys the finer things in life. He loves gourmet cuisine, Italian opera and fashion. He lives in one of the most exclusive addresses in Manhattan and enjoys long walks in Washington Square Park near his home. But most of all he looks forward to his annual trip to Paris, where he and his girlfriend Chloe share fabulous French cuisine. All in all, it's not a bad life for a dog.

Oh, did I forget to mention that Gulliver is a dog? A Lhasa apso, to be precise? That's not surprising, ... Read More:

A wonderful yarn, author combines a little suspense, authentic points of view about what life is like for a weasel, it had a very touching ending.
Bagley Brown Jr. is a literary hero in my book! The illustrations were very well done, they conveyed what the characters were feeling in the story. I felt Author and Artist got the same sense of the Wainscott Weasel's world. I recommend this work and would like to express my weaselful gratitude to the Author and Artist for making the story come to fruition. ... Read More:

Monty is an insecure rat, insecure because he and his family live in a sewer and create works of art, which is frowned on by the higher class society of wharf rats. Additionally he shares his name with his Uncle Moony, a drunken creator of decorated rings, which shames him because of the derision of the other rats. An interest in the pretty Isabel and a crisis helps him to overcome his insecurity and his shame. I bought this book because I'd just acquired 2 pet rats, and ended up hooked on Tor Seidler. He truly cares ... Read More:

4.The Steadfast Tin Soldier by: Hans Christian Andersen
1992-10
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : The Steadfast Tin Soldier
This is a great version of the story of The Steadfast Tin Soldier -- always one of my favorite stories as a kid. My son, age 7, loves this book and we read it over and over. The illustrations are excellent and I recommend it. My son found it in his school library but when we went to buy our own copy, it was out of print. So we had to buy it used but it was well worth the effort to have our own copy.

In A Rat's Tale, I wrote off Randal as being somewhat of a snooty bore. In this book, however, we learn that Randal isn't such a bore after all. He has a secret interest that absolutely does not conform with what his society would approve of. And to add to his need for secrecy, he is blamed for a crime he doesn't commit. I felt sorry for him, being chased and having to hide, but the experience matures him so that he's ready to embrace a life changing decision. My favorite character was Maggie as I'm a singer, too. Elizabeth, the world ... Read More:

It is a well written book, but my 10-year-old daughter who loves cats was sad when Toes didn't get to be with his family because he got lost when he was 7 months old. *spoiler* Then she was devastated when the cat DIES when he is only 7 years old. We get to "be with him" as he watches the world fade out. Turns out the rest of his litter died when they were FIVE years old. As another reviewer wrote, it is not poignant, it is depressing. Line from the book, "He's dead, isn't he." "There's a dead cat in the yard!" My daughter was heartbroken. ... Read More:

This is a charming story about a nit-picky woodchuck named Fred who has his life turned upside down; first by his marriage to Phoebe, and right on top of that by the appearance of a lost human baby on his doorstep. The baby, who Phoebe names Margaret, is not only your typical demanding toddler, but her family life has resulted in her developing an especially unpleasant personality. Margaret's presence forces Fred to adapt to change and circumstances he once would never have accepted. Her absence likewise inspires her human family to make some changes ... Read More:

Tim lives in the shadow of his younger brother. John Henry is taller, in better shape, a star at sports, and an excellent student. But Tim has a special relationship with his great aunt Winnie, who the rest of the family write off as being eccentric. Great Aunt Winnie opens Tim's world to a new talent, one that John Henry doesn't share. As a result, Tim emerges from John Henry's shadow and begins to blossom. Readers may be, or remember being, in a sibling's shadow when it came to things like schoolwork and sports. They may even remember only being known ... Read More:

Can't add to the breathless reviews here. Even in 1979 wasn't the tale of the put-upon orphan old? The harridan who cleans too much? The snide, hypocritical "adoptive" uncle? ,

The characters do not ring true. I can find no reason for the brother to abandon the other, and (as in so many orphan books) can see no reason they turn out to be nice people when raised by cliches of nastiness.

If you like Tale of Despereaux, another tale wherein mindless, contrived suffering is romanticized, you'll love this.

My book's title was: "Brainboy and the DEATHMASTER." This story is about and orphan named Darryl Kirby. He's a whiz at computer games. He could get through a maze in 2 minutes with 30 seconds to spare! He's that good. Although his GameMaster ( a very fun game system made by Keith Masterly, 3 lets him forget about that. StarMaster was his favorite game where you travel in a fleet of ships to help the galaxy.
Later, Keith Masterly adopts Darryl and takes him to his... large, hotel, lab, place. Soon, Darryl uncovers a sinister plan that only the greatest ... Read More:
