Being an avid reader and huge post-apocalyptic zombie fan I thought I would really enjoy this book. I think this book suffers in two ways. One is that it tries to be to realistic and instead comes off sounding fake. I never felt scared or hopeless for a character and some of the stories were just silly. | Like so many other reviewers, I would like to reiterate that this book is wonderful. Jodi weaves a web of conflict that is both beautiful and terrible, where the answers are never right and never wrong. I applaud her for her characters that come to live inside of you, characters you learn to love and hate. When it comes down to it, the book teaches so many lessons about the human condition. I cried a few times and stayed up most of the night trying to get to the end.

| I got this book for Chritmas and ever since opening it I can't put the book down. I would say that it isn't the best book that I've read by Philippa but the way this story is told it feels so real. I never feel as if I'm reading a historical novel that would put me to sleep; I feel like I'm reading a different novel, for example the twilight books. I get a story along with facts that wouldn't have ever known enless i pick up on of Philippa's books. All I'm really trying to say is that if you've read one of her books your sure ... Read More: |

| I received this book from my brother and love the concept of it. However, my early experience with the recipies is terrible. All I've tried so far is the baking recipies, so perhaps other chapters are good. I agree with Eric Lyman's review comments about inadequate directions. Several of the baking recipies failed outright, including the Biscotti alla Canella (p.1050). | This book is hilarious, and yet very thought provoking. I may warn you however, it is not for everybody, and you have to have a very open mind going into it. This is honestly the best book that I have ever read. It follows many themes, the death of Oscar's father in 9/11, his grandfather, a mysterious key, all of these themes are intertwined to from a great book. |
