| I purchased 4 of these books ( all different) as gifts for my two nephews. I also purchased a magnifying glass for each of them . They are curious kids and really enjoy this kind of stuff. These books are full of information easy to read and understand, compact in size and just all around great books/guides. My husband and I also have a set of these books and have found them to be perfect when we want to look up something up. Like the pecular looking frog we found on our deck last summer or the snake ... | This book has had my son absolutely enrapured for weeks. There are probably 50 (+) or so line drawings each of snakes, salamanders, turtles and other lizards each with an interesting explanation. Your child can color in each drawing after finding its picture somewhere in the book. The diagrams are detailed enough for older kids as well as little ones probably starting with age 5 or so. This book also has pages of colored stickers for extra fun and observation. This is absolutely the best book of its kind. |

| Degenhardt et al. have produced a first-rate treatment of New Mexico's herpetology. Their book should be on the shelf of anyone with more than a casual interest in the state fauna. Species accounts are thorough, describing the history of the species names, and excellent overviews of the natural history of each species. Even with difficult groups, such as the whiptail lizards, the keys seem to work well. There are color photographs of each species as well. |
