| They don't seem to require reading classic literature in the schools any more, so I decided to build a classics library for my 12-year old granddaughter. She has read them all, including this one, so it wasn't a bad idea. Now, if I could just get her to call her old grandfather more often.... |

| While this collection was designed with children 9-12 in mind, I have found that adults and older teens really like it too. It has a nice selection of poetry, is readable, is presented in a very attractive way, and is just plain fun to read. I shared my copy of the book with high school juniors, and they loved it. |

| Henry David's House makes a fine introduction to Thoreau in his own words. The simple message conveyed in the selected quotations from Walden is that Thoreau went to Walden Pond and built a small cabin with the help of friends and lived there for a few seasons living simply and loving nature. This is, of course, what is widely known about Thoreau even among those who've never read Walden. The illustrations are very lovely, and the passages are carefully chosen. | It is a pity this book will soon get lost as copies begin to disappear. I suggest you snap up your used copy as soon as possible. This beautiful book is simple, with lovely rhymes about a boy that is saying hello to nature during his day, and at the end saying good night to the moon. It is a relaxing sweet story to put your children to bed, and it is an absolute favorite of my son, and he almost knows it by heart (he is 3). Every children's home library should have it! |
