| I want to echo and then expand on what another reviewer, JKBonner, criticized about this book. The authors' failure to indicate stresses on deviating syllables is a grave weakness. And here's the strange thing: Barron's also publishes a smaller compendium of 300 Italian verbs entitled Barron's Italian Verbs in which the same authors supply accent marks for these deviant stresses! | As a teacher of Italian for adults, who are quick and demanding learners, I know how important it is to have handy a quick review chart of Italian verb conjugations which can be very useful when you cannot remember the difference between the future endings and the conditional (they're so similar!) | I purchased this text without doing my research and now I wish I had saved my money and purchased a better grammar reference such as Soluzioni! : A Practical Guide to Italian Grammar or Essential Italian Grammar.
What makes this book just "OK" in my opinion is the fact that it only grazes each grammar topic. Idiomatic expressions and usage of the most common verbs such as "andare" are barely touched upon. | As most books on this subject, if you read it and practice it helps. This one helps a lot too. Clear and valuable examples. Don't buy the usual line that authors usually use for these kinds of books "it's not boring to study grammar" - it's a lie, it's boring but it's not a waste of time at all. This book makes your time more valuable. |

| This book would be a wonderful way to learn or improve one's spoken Italian if purchased in hard copy. As an e-book, however, it needs some work. This is more a short-coming of Kindle than the book itself--certainly not the author.
The main problem is that words and phrases listed to exemplify the subject in each chapter are barely legible. Written in tiny, italicized text, they do not enlarge as you change the font size on the Kindle page. I like the approach to teaching Italian here, and I still ... Read More: |
