Books : For Whom the Bell Tolls
This is my third experience with Hemingway, and while I fully expect to complete the entire Hemingway collection, I can't quite find it within myself to award five stars to any of the works I've read to date.

In each of the novels (The Sun Also Rises and Farewell to Arms being the other two) I've been entranced at times by the hauntingly beautiful writing, however there have been periods where the story drags, where the almost stream of consciousness style grinds the action to a halt. ... Read More:

I had to read this book for school, and I didn't like it at all. I didn't even finish it! This is not a good book. DO NOT read it. I don't know how many times I fell asleap while reading. My brother had to wake me up several times. I read all the time, and have finished the 800 page books in about one or two days. This book took me like 2 months. This is the boringist book I have ever read.

This is one of our family's favorite books. Not only a classic, but if you live in/near NYC, take a family field trip up to the Little Red Lighthouse under the George Washington bridge. Your kids will thank you for it. We give this book all the time as a gift and will forever remain in our bookshelves long after the kids are grown.

I was forced to read this book by school but I have to admit it was pretty good. It definitly isn't the best book I have ever read but it acually was worth reading. It was surprising but sometimes I didn't understand what was happening. I liked it plus the book was really cheap and was delievered really fast. I rate it a good book to read!

I have purchased this book for my homeschooling 6th grader as a reading comprehension material. The language level of this book is 6th to 7th grader material with good amount of challenging vocabs. I liked the introduction of this book a lot. It gave a lot of "behind a scene" story of the author and also, it is a perfect example of a great book report. I strongly recommend to read the introduction, then start reading the book. You will enjoy this book from different perspective.

This hardcover book is great. I love the story and the detailed pictuers are amazing. The simplicity of another era comes through, and the friendship with the bear is heartwarming without being cheesy. The bear is so cute! I definitely recommend this book.

I read this book in childhood and never forgot it. When I read it, I was really too young to fully grasp its profound message of compassion, faith and forgiveness, and the miracles they can evoke in our lives. Over the years, I revisited this book - even in adulthood - and found something new in it every time. Its impact in my life has been subtle, patient and gentle, yet affirming and illuminating.

Decades after I first read this book, I became a mother. I began telling this story to my son before he was old enough to speak. My treasured ... Read More:

As a long-time collector of woodcut novels, I am overjoyed to see the republishing of these gems. In this one very reasonably priced volume, you get a great introduction to this little known art form. If you have an interest in art history, early-to-mid 20th century political movements, art deco style, or if you simply enjoy good stories, you'll love this book. You really do not need an interest in modern-day graphic novels to appreciate these works (I don't). If you do have an interest in graphic novels, get this book, and learn some family history of the art. ... Read More:

This is an amazing wordless novel that somehow speaks volumes. I would just like to point out a mistake that many reviewers have made concerning this classic. Ward used little words in this work at least we should get the title right. The title is "Gods' Man" not "God's Man", this simple placement of the apostrophe makes all the difference and adds another level for which we can read the work. This work can be "read" over and over again, it is amazing and a great statement about the plight of artists in the 20th century.

I've only recently come across the work of Lynd Ward.
Originally published in 1930, Mad Man's drum is a true graphic novel, telling a story only through wordless woodcuts. [Rather than a collection of masquerading comic books bound between hard covers.]
Every page of this graphic novel is a lesson in woodcut technique.
I've always liked Dover books as publishers. Their books are well made and inexpensive. For 10 bucks or so, this one is a bargain tutorial for any wood-be woodcut artist.
