This was my 8th grade son's summer reading. He could not stop reading it and it caused him to initiate a lot of conversation with us about the holocaust. Since it was from the perspective of a girl his own age, he really identified with it.

Wow. I picked this book up and couldn't put it down. It's so important to remember that this kind of evil actually happened. I will make sure this story is remembered by my children and my grandchildren. Thank you, dear Livia, for having the courage to tell it.

5.Elli: Coming of Age in the Holocaust by: Livia Bitton Jackson

Books : Elli: Coming of Age in the Holocaust
This book, Elli, is nearly identical to her other book, I Have Lived A Thousand Years. I think Elli was written first. It has a few more details in it that the author Livia Bitton-Jackson left out of I Have Lived A Thousand Years. Either book is appropriate for junior-high/high school readers. I recommend either of the books as Livia Bitton Jackson writes clearly and well. It is redundant to own/read both books.

After reading her first two books (which are a must to understand her perspective), I was left wanting to hear what happened next after reading this one. I loved the way she wrote about her mother with humor and her I was ... Read More:
