| Fever, 1793 was an accidental find. It is a totally intriguing book about the malaria epidemic in Philadelphia. It is historically accurate and the author cites her sources at the end of the book so they don't interfere with the adventure. This is a young girl's story of survival when the fever strikes her home. She deals with death, looters, and economic survival in a community ruled by fear. This would be a great read-aloud for a teacher of US history or just a great book to curl up with if you want ... Read More: |

| Tyler is a character that will remain with you long after you close the book. His obsession with the queen bee Bethany (who happens to be the daughter of his father's boss), his antagonistic relationship with Bethany's twin brother, his apparent 'no-win" relationship with his own father, and his ongoing struggle with his own identify problems all combine to make for a powerful and poignant drama. Highly recommended but definitely not a book for children! |

| I recently discovered Laurie Halse Anderson in the YA section of my library and am in the process of reading all her books. Catalyst is probably my least favorite so far, although it's not a bad read at all. Since other reviewers have outlined the plot details so well, I'll limit my comments to what I chiefly disliked about this story, the way the subject of bullying is handled.
