| I'm primarily a PNR fan, recently venturing into UF. Kim Harrison was next on my, to-buy-list, after reading her great 'Hollows' reviews.
So, here I was standing in the local grocery, when my eye caught KH's most recent release. Had it been calling me? It must have been a witchy-spell, with some pixie dust thrown in, because I suddenly had to have it, knowing full well there were 5 books preceding it---and I did NOT have them. | This one was alright. Just alright. Wasn't anything great, but I'll still pick up the next one to see if it gets any better.
Rachel Morgan is a witch with a purpose. | There are a few plot points I'm withholding opinion on until I see where they go in the next book (were they for plot convenience or were they just for the compelling emotional factor?) but overall, I thought the action and plot of the book was as good as any in the series. I was hooked from the beginning and really enjoyed the characters, setting, and interactions. | I resisted starting this series of books, but at my sister's continued insistence, I gave them a try. This is the second in the series and I am impressed at how the author is bringing in new characters and blending everyone of them together. Rachel Morgan, a witch with an attitude, continues to get herself in more and more trouble, and the fun is watching her get herself out of it!
P.S. The sex scenes are a little naughty, so if that sort of thing bothers you, you probably should gives this a pass. |

| I think I have fallen in love with Harrison's Hollows books. The characters are so colorful and real, and they have good depth and energy. And nothing has changed in this, her third book of the series.
It was a little slow and not much happened. It seemed that this one developed the plot for a future book and the series, but didn't really go too much in to a heavy plot for itself. | Tanya Huff- "Music Hath Charms"- A bit confusing and not interesting in the least.
Marjorie Liu "Minotaur in Stone"- Slow start and rocky middle. The story is a bit to romancey for me. The usage of Greek mythology is the redeeming factor that made this story a bit interesting. The sex was ok, just a bit weird though, being that she was having sex with a creature that has the head of a bull and the body of a man. Cheyenne McCray- "Demon Lover"- Exquisite story! | "Holidays Are Hell", an anthology of four different short stories by various authors, suffers the same problem as most other anthologies. The stories have varying degrees of sucess. The theme here is obviously the holidays and unfortunately most of the stories could have been written before the theme was decided and the authors could rewrite a few lines mentioning its the holidays and voila...their short stories fit the theme.
